Herpes Support Group
Herpes is caused by one of two Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV). It is a sexually transmitted infection that causes flu like symptoms, sores, tingling, itching and burning. There are two types of HSV, Type 1 and Type 2. HSV 1 is most often seen around the mouth and is also called a cold sore. HSV 1 can be found on the genitals as a result of oral sex. HSV 2 is most typically found on the genitals. Many Canadians will at some point in their life will have one type of HSV. Currently there is no cure for Herpes. Despite this there are many ways of increasing well-being while living with the infection! Being diagnosed with the infection can be stressful and isolating.
To support folks with the diagnosis and with living a vital life with the infection I am running a Herpes Support Group at the Island Sexual Health Society. The support group aims to provide individuals who have been infected with the virus with education and the opportunity for discussion. The group will decide on rules during the first session that will help everyone feel safe in the group. Attending the group requires a 4 week commitment. The group will run Saturdays November 15, 22, 29, and December 6th from 3:30-5pm. The cost will be 60 dollars. Please let me know if you are interested. An RSVP is necessary in order to join the group.
